Why? Because the controller software had compatibility issues with Windows 7 (fixed by turning off UAC) AND there were no drivers for the robotics for anything except Windows XP. The OEM shippped a brand new laptop with Windows XP installed. I had a client buy a brand new $500k laser in 2014.
Last I looked, we've got some plant equipment running DOS 6.2.Īnd then there's the early 1980's East German control systems on one of our presses :-) The life cycle of large capital equipment and computer OSes aren't exactly in synch.
I'm guessing you don't work in a manufacturing environment.
